The Hope Balloon
When I first started in private practice, I saw a post somewhere about a client’s experience with their therapist. This client had struggled with depression and was feeling hopeless. Their therapist told them that they were holding the client’s “hope balloon” for them. Hope was there, even if it was hard to hold, but their therapist had it for them.
I always loved that bit of imagery. It’s something I think about often when it comes to my own work with clients.
It can be hard to feel hopeful in a world where it feels like everything is going wrong but as a therapist, I can hold your hope balloon for you. Whenever you’re ready, you can take it, but know that it’s safe with me until then.
