Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or body sensations that may make it challenging for a person to perform their normal day-to-day tasks. As to whether it can help you, the short answer is YES! Therapy requires a vested interest in making changes in one’s life, which requires time and effort. If you’re willing to do the work, then therapy can be incredibly beneficial.

That’s a tough question. Sometimes the 15-minute consultation can give you a good feel for a person. It may be helpful to have in mind what you’d like in a therapist. Do you prefer a gentle approach or tough love? Does this person specialize in your particular concern? Did you feel comfortable while talking to them? The therapeutic relationship is unique for each person, so it’s important to pay attention to how you feel when you meet with a therapist.

Clients that I ideally love working with are those who are struggling with anxiety. I love working with people-pleasers and perfectionists and members of the queer community! Some of my best and most fulfilling work has been done with people who are working on attending to their own wants and needs and trans clients. I also really love working with new clinicians and helping them find their identity as a therapist. Clients working with me are invested in the process of therapy and the deeper work that that requires, as well as being open to the ups and downs that therapy brings!

I am now a MaMHCA Certified Clinical Supervisor so I can work with pre-licensed clinicians on their supervisory hours and current clinicians looking for extra support and feedback in their practice. I also provide Gender Affirming Care Letters for trans and non-binary clients seeking GAC.

I approach therapy with a person-centered, empathetic perspective. I utilize humor where it is appropriate and focus on skill-building techniques to help strengthen a client’s ability to better maintain and manage their mental health concerns.

I am a private pay therapist and a 50-minute session costs $180 out of pocket. I am in the process of figuring out a sliding scale option for clients.
Out-of-network clients may have the option of insurance reimbursing them for out of network costs, but it’s important to ask. I would encourage you to reach out to your insurance provider and ask about your policy! For new clients, I include a “How To” guide for calling about in-network benefits.
Here are some things to ask:
Are virtual therapy sessions (teletherapy) covered by my plan?
What is my out-of-network deductible for therapy sessions?
How much of my deductible has been met for the year?
What is my copay for therapy sessions?
Do I need a referral from a primary care physician to see an out-of-network provider?
How do I submit out-of-network claims for reimbursement?

One of the easiest ways to notice if therapy is working, is treatment goals! Are you able to work on and meet those goals? Are you noticing an improvement in aspects of your life that were effected by the concern you came to therapy for? Therapy is a lot like the Cha-Cha, you may take a few steps forward and a few steps back, but that doesn’t mean it’s not working. It’s a process and all about skill-building and learning more about you! That takes time!

My practice is currently virtual, so I don’t have a physical office space that clients can attend, but I’m located in Massachusetts and will only be seeing clients who are also located in Massachusetts. I am currently working on getting licensed in New York State.

I am considering it. But as of right now, I’m sticking to virtual for the flexibility and accessibility it offers.

I use SimplePractice which has a teletherapy function integrated into the platform, as well as e-paperwork to make things convenient for clients!

In my practice, I recommend potential clients have a 15-minute free consultation to talk about goals, what they’re looking for, and if I’m a good match for them as a therapist. If we are a good fit, then we would schedule regular video teletherapy sessions to work on treatment goals.
